The government has unveiled a new initiative under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, aimed at empowering unemployed youth across the country with practical job experience and essential skills to boost their employability.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the government confirmed that the program includes a robust On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component that will benefit youth in all 47 counties.

The initiative is designed to provide participants with real-world workplace exposure, professional mentorship, and a nationally recognized certificate, enhancing their chances of securing meaningful employment.

To be eligible, applicants must be:

  • Aged 18–29 years, or up to 35 years for persons with disabilities.
  • Unemployed, or working in low-income or vulnerable jobs.
  • Hold an educational qualification of Form Four level or below.

Participants will undergo a comprehensive training experience, including life skills, business and digital literacy, and hands-on learning in actual work settings. They will also receive guidance from industry professionals and support in navigating the job market.

Applications are currently open from July 11 to August 15, 2025. Interested youth can apply by dialing *254#, selecting the NYOTA Project option, and following the prompts. The ministry emphasized that no payments are required at any stage of the application or training process.

“This program is designed to bridge the gap between school and the world of work for our youth,” the ministry stated. “By equipping them with relevant skills and experience, we are creating pathways to sustainable employment and self-reliance.”

The NYOTA Project is being implemented in partnership with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), as part of broader efforts to tackle youth unemployment and promote inclusive economic development.
