President William Ruto on Monday, June 30, held a high-level meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Seville, Spain.
In a statement after the meeting, Macron said they reaffirmed their shared commitment to sustainable development and peace across Africa.
He noted that both Kenya and France were united in advancing this vision and would continue to push the agenda forward with international partners.
“With President William Ruto, we share a common commitment: that no country should have to choose between development and protecting the planet.
“This is the ambition we are bringing today to Seville with our partners, as part of the Pact for Prosperity, People and the Planet launched two years ago in Paris,” he noted.
Macron also confirmed that the two countries would co-chair the upcoming Africa–France Summit, scheduled to be held in Nairobi.
“We will also champion this ambition at the Africa–France Summit, co-chaired by Kenya and France next spring in Nairobi,” he stated.
During their talks, Ruto and Macron also reviewed key projects in progress between the two nations, including collaborations in energy transition and agricultural development.
“With President Ruto, we also discussed major projects underway between our two countries in the fields of energy transition, transport, and agriculture,” Macron revealed.
The two leaders also took time to deliberate on regional peace and security matters, pledging to work together in promoting stability across East and Central Africa.
“In this context, we reaffirmed our shared commitment to peace and security in the Great Lakes region, Sudan, and Somalia,” Macron added.
At the same time, Ruto held talks with President Andrzej Duda of Poland where they discussed collaborations in areas of mutual interest.
“We are working with Poland to enhance our bilateral relations and foster cooperation in areas of mutual interest. We are expanding our collaboration in agriculture, livestock development, energy, and mining,” Ruto said in an update.
The talks followed another with Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan where they reaffirmed their commitment to positioning Kenya as an attractive investment destination for German investors.
“Relations between Kenya and Germany remain strong and continue to flourish thanks to mutually beneficial partnerships. We value our collaboration in labour mobility, renewable energy, and trade and investment,” Ruto said after the meeting.
