The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Sunday refuted claims circulating online that its detectives had arrested two suspects for breaking into the State House in Mombasa and sleeping on President William Ruto’s bed.
The DCI clarified that the viral news was fake and alleged that the suspects had been apprehended for a completely unrelated offense along Digo Road in Mombasa.
“Contrary to some fake news circulating online, two suspects were arrested on November 11, 2024, by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Central Police Station Mombasa, for the offense of handling suspected stolen property,” read a statement from the DCI.

The fabricated reports falsely claimed the suspects broke into Mombasa State House through an open window to experience the comfort of the President’s bed. It further alleged that the suspects were caught after cooks in the State House raised the alarm upon hearing snoring sounds coming from the President’s bedroom.
The DCI firmly denied these allegations, stating that the arrests followed a tip-off from the public about suspected illegal activities by the individuals. Detectives raided the suspects’ residence at Rio Building along Digo Road, where they recovered stolen goods worth over KSh 1.2 million.
The haul included 51 mobile phones, several laptops, and other valuable items. The suspects, aged 20 and 29, are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Separately, the DCI confirmed the arrest of a notorious criminal in Kasarani, Nairobi, who had been on the run after allegedly drugging and robbing a foreign national.
The suspect is accused of stupefying a Chad national before stealing KSh 500,000, two mobile phones, and other items. The arrest followed several complaints filed against the suspect, who had been evading police for some time.
The DCI reiterated its commitment to pursuing all criminal elements and urged the public to disregard false reports aimed at tarnishing its work.
