Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has ordered all Huduma Centers across Kenya to establish desks dedicated to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
In a statement dated Monday, December 2, the CS acknowledged widespread confusion among Kenyans regarding the new health insurance scheme. He emphasized that the desks would provide essential services such as registration and information dissemination about the SHA.
“I recognize that there has been confusion around SHIF and the Social Health Authority (SHA). To bridge this gap, I have directed that all Huduma Centres across the country establish SHIF desks, ensuring every Kenyan can easily access information and register,” read part of the statement.
The initiative aims to simplify the process for Kenyans and ensure that they fully understand the benefits and procedures of the new health coverage program.
SHA is a health coverage initiative introduced by President William Ruto’s administration and officially launched on October 1, 2024. The health cover, branded as Taifa Care, seeks to provide affordable and accessible healthcare to all Kenyans.
As of November 21, 2024, over 14 million Kenyans had registered for the program. To boost the registration numbers further, the government has employed a door-to-door approach to encourage more citizens to sign up.
The establishment of SHA desks at Huduma Centers is part of a broader strategy to enhance public awareness and streamline the registration process for the new health insurance scheme.
