Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has unveiled 600 job opportunities for motorcycle riders in Dubai.
Speaking on Thursday, December 5, Mutua announced that officials from a United Arab Emirates-based company would visit Kenya to conduct interviews and hire riders.
Applicants are required to meet specific qualifications, including a valid Kenyan passport or proof of an eCitizen application in progress, a current Certificate of Good Conduct or evidence of its application, and a valid rider’s license. While prior experience is not mandatory, Mutua noted that it would be an added advantage.
The CS revealed that successful candidates would undergo four months of training in Dubai, during which the company would help them acquire UAE riding licenses. However, applicants must cover pre-arrival expenses totaling Ksh167,900, as the hiring company does not cater to these costs.
The required payments include Ksh81,400 to a Human Resource (HR) provider in Dubai, Ksh40,000 for airfare, Ksh16,500 for a non-refundable medical fee to be paid upfront, and Ksh30,000 for processing fees. Mutua assured applicants that banks were ready to offer loans to cover these costs, with repayment scheduled after employment begins.
“The medical fee must be paid first, while the remaining costs can be settled after passing the medicals. This ensures candidates do not incur unnecessary losses,” he explained.
Successful candidates will earn at least Ksh104,000 per month, tax-free. Additional benefits include free accommodation, comprehensive medical care, a company-provided motorbike, and a work visa.
“Riders will earn 7.5 dirhams per delivery trip, with a minimum daily average of 15 trips, amounting to 112.5 dirhams per day. Over 26 working days in a month, this translates to 2,925 dirhams, approximately Ksh104,000. Ambitious riders can make over 30 deliveries daily, significantly increasing their earnings,” Mutua elaborated.
Interviews in Nairobi are scheduled for December 9th, 10th, and 11th, 2024, at Kamukunji TVC, next to Kamukunji Primary School, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In Malindi, interviews will take place on December 13th and 14th, 2024, at Kilifi North TVC in Watamu Town, near Watamu Primary School, during the same hours.
“Successful applicants must be ready to travel to Dubai before the year ends. I urge all hustlers, especially bodaboda riders, to take advantage of this opportunity and try their luck,” Mutua concluded.
