Tanzania and Burkina Faso face off in the opening match.

Tanzania will launch their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on Saturday, August 02, with a highly anticipated home clash against Burkina Faso.

The Taifa Stars will host the opening match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, marking the beginning of the regional tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Excitement is building as the hosts aim for a strong start against a physically imposing Burkina Faso side that defeated them 2-0 in their last encounter at the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar.

“We are ready. We’ve worked hard in camp and the boys are hungry. We want to give the country something to smile about,” said Taifa Stars goalkeeper Aishi Manula ahead of the match.

Saturday’s showdown will pit Tanzania’s pressing style and home advantage against the Stallions’ pace and counter-attacking threat.

Burkina Faso defender Patrick Malo said his side is motivated to make an impression. “We carry the responsibility of our league and country. This is our chance to show what Burkina Faso football is all about. We’re ready to fight,” he stated.

Both teams are drawn in a challenging group that includes Mauritania, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic—making a winning start all the more crucial.
