The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Kenya an additional Ksh 6.5 million after fans breached the perimeter wall at Kasarani Stadium during Sunday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) clash between the Harambee Stars and Morocco.
In a statement, the continental football body said Kenya had committed multiple safety and security violations.
“The disciplinary board found Kenya guilty and imposed a fine of USD 50,000 (approximately Ksh 6.5 million). Kenya was warned that continued failure to meet CAF safety and security requirements may lead to relocation of Kenya national team matches to an alternative venue,” read the statement.
This penalty comes just days after CAF fined the country Ksh 1.9 million over safety and security lapses during the Harambee Stars’ opening CHAN fixture against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
CAF has also ordered that attendance at Harambee Stars’ matches be capped at 27,000 fans, including this Sunday’s fixture against Zambia at Kasarani.
Similally, The CAF Disciplinary Board charged the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (“FRMF”) with the inappropriate conduct of its players during Morocco’s TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (“CHAN”) match against Kenya.
The Disciplinary Board found Morocco guilty and imposed a fine of USD 5,000, of which USD 2,500 is suspended on condition that no similar offence is committed during the remainder of CHAN 2024.
The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.
