CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe visiting Kasarani stadium for inspection of ongoing renovations.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe is set to visit Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, the host nations of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The tour is scheduled for Thursday, December 19, and Friday, December 20, as part of preparations for the tournament.

The three East African countries are co-hosting the continental event, set to take place from February 1 to February 28, 2025. Motsepe’s visit will focus on inspecting stadiums, training sites, and other facilities, as well as holding discussions with key stakeholders.

Thursday, December 19: The CAF President will begin his tour in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will spend the day meeting government officials, football leaders, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

Friday, December 20 (Morning): He will proceed to Nairobi, Kenya, for a series of engagements.

Friday, December 20 (Afternoon): The tour will conclude in Kampala, Uganda, with further meetings and site visits.

In a statement on CAF’s official website, the organization outlined the purpose of Motsepe’s visit. He will meet with government representatives, football leadership, and the LOCs in each country.

The agenda includes inspecting stadiums and training grounds undergoing renovations in preparation for next year’s competition.

This visit follows a second inspection tour conducted by a CAF delegation in November, which assessed stadiums, training grounds, airports, hotels, hospitals, and other key facilities.

Motsepe’s visit to Kenya is highly anticipated, as the country currently lacks a CAF-approved stadium.

The uncertainty around Kasarani Stadium and its capacity to host the upcoming 2025 CHAN has risen after the recent inspection, which showed that only 72% of the work has been done. And it needs to be done 100% by December 31.

Renovations at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and Nyayo National Stadium are behind schedule, raising concerns ahead of the December 31 deadline set by CAF for all facilities to be ready.

Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Kipchumba Murkomen has repeatedly assured the public that the facilities will meet the deadline.
