Charles Kipkirui Mutai, the newly appointed Principal of Bomet University College, was involved in a road accident on Tuesday, December 10, while returning after officially assuming office.
The accident, which occurred shortly after Prof. Mutai took over his new role, left him unharmed. However, his bodyguard, Mr. Kemboi, sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
On Wednesday, December 11, Bomet University’s Council, Senate, and Administration formally welcomed Prof. Mutai, who accepted his appointment on December 5 for a five-year contract.
Prof. Mutai previously served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Planning, Research, and Innovation at Masinde Muliro University. He is expected to provide research, academic, and administrative leadership at Bomet University College.
During the ceremony, Prof. Mutai reiterated his commitment to advancing the university’s vision of becoming a premier green institution championing research excellence in science, technology, and innovation for sustainability.
His tenure will involve significant responsibilities, including completing and expanding infrastructure projects, promoting research and training programs, and pursuing the University Charter.
In a statement, the leadership and people of Bomet County extended their congratulations and support to the new Principal.
“On behalf of the leadership and the people of Bomet County, I wish to welcome Prof. Mutai and wish him well as he assumes office,” read the statement.
Prof. Mutai’s appointment is expected to usher in a new era of growth and development at Bomet University College.
