Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over incidents in Embu, where leaders faced heckling during public gatherings.

Speaking during a church service in Kimumu, Mbeere North, on Sunday, January 5, 2025, Kindiki accused Gachagua of incitement and fostering divisions in the country.

“If you have your own issues, don’t bring them here. I have given him all the respect, but he must also respect me,” Kindiki said, referring to the heckling that disrupted a burial ceremony where the President’s speech was ignored by an agitated crowd.

The Deputy President took issue with Gachagua’s leadership style, stating, “You can’t be a leader who listens to people’s grievances, then cries and complains without offering solutions. All you do is fuel anger and frustration.”

He called on leaders to steer clear of raising unnecessary political tensions through personal attacks. “This kind of behavior is poor leadership. Leaders should prioritize offering practical solutions rather than creating divisions among Kenyans,” he remarked.

Kindiki also dismissed claims that his reduced public appearances signaled inaction, terming them distractions. “Watch this space. We know what Kenyans expect, and we are focused on addressing the real issues,” he concluded.

The remarks come amid growing public discontent, with citizens urging leaders to tackle pressing national challenges instead of engaging in political disputes.
