Airtel Money has announced a strategic partnership with Google, allowing its customers to make direct and secure payments for Google Play purchases using their Airtel Money wallets. The partnership aims to provide a seamless and convenient payment option for users accessing digital applications.

According to Airtel, the integration makes Airtel Money the only mobile money wallet currently available on Google Play, positioning it as a leader in mobile financial services. The company emphasized its commitment to enhancing customer experience through innovative solutions that simplify transactions.

Notably, payments for Google Play applications made through Airtel Money will not attract any transaction fees, further enhancing affordability for users.

Speaking during the official announcement, Airtel Money Managing Director Anne Kinuthia-Otieno highlighted Kenya’s vast mobile money economy, stating that the partnership ensures choice, convenience, and flexibility for Kenyans across various payment ecosystems.

The integration has been facilitated by dLocal, a leading cross-border payment platform that connects global merchants to emerging markets. dLocal has enabled Airtel Money as a payment method for Google Play in Kenya, supporting Google’s efforts to provide localized payment solutions that meet the needs of users.

With over 31.5 million mobile money accounts in Kenya—representing nearly eighty percent of the adult population—Airtel Mobile Money has played a key role in driving financial inclusion.
