Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Mohamud has been nominated to succeed outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak as the new Chief Executive Officer of the anti-graft body.
EACC Chairperson David Oginde announced the nomination in a statement dated Friday, November 22, 2024.
“The Commission wishes to inform the public that following a competitive recruitment process, Mr. Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, MBS, has been nominated for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,” said Bishop Oginde.
Before serving as the Deputy CEO of the EACC, Abdi held the position of Director of Investigations at the commission.
“The nominee’s details will be forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and consideration as per the law,” added Oginde.

The position of CEO was advertised on September 17, 2024, through the EACC website and print media. By the deadline of October 7, 2024, the Commission had received 172 applications. Out of these, 14 candidates were shortlisted, with their names published in the media on October 11, 2024.
The shortlisted candidates, in addition to Abdi, included Stephen Maisha Ngowa (Kitui), Doreen Nkatha Muthaura (Isiolo), Jackson Kaunda Mue (Machakos), Joseph Vincent Onyango (Nairobi), and Paul Ndemo Maina (Kisii). Others were Victor Omari Okongo (Siaya), Peter Lokol Lomulen (Turkana), Obadiah Kipkoech Keitany (Baringo), John Tentemo Ole Moyaki (Kajiado), and David Kiplagat Ruto Too (Uasin Gishu). Justa Wawira Mwangi (Embu), Mohamed Abdul Mmaka (Lamu), and Waweru Karanja (Laikipia) also made the list.
The interviews for the shortlisted candidates were conducted between November 19 and November 21, 2024.
Abdi is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned investigator with over 30 years of experience in tackling corruption and economic crimes. He began his career in law enforcement in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector in the Kenya Police Service.
He later joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC), now EACC, in 2005 as a Senior Officer in charge of the Rapid Response Division and gradually rose to head the Directorate of Investigation.
A highly trained career detective, Abdi has undergone extensive training locally and internationally in corruption and economic crimes.
He holds a Master of Science in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester in the UK, a Bachelor of Laws from Mount Kenya University, and a Professional Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
