Archbishop Muheria Does Not Have Moral Authority to Criticize Ruto Government -Oscar Sudi

Date:

Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has defended President William Ruto amid criticism from Catholic bishops, including Nyeri Archbishop Anthony Muheria.

In a statement dated Thursday, November 14, Sudi accused the archbishop of “double-speaking” in his remarks about the government.

According to Sudi, Muheria lacked the moral authority to criticize the current administration, alleging that the archbishop was lenient toward the previous regime, despite its failures.

“Muheria lacks the moral authority to criticize the current regime because he engages in doublespeak,” Sudi asserted. “He is on record for supporting the former administration, even when it was clearly failing Kenyans, and he must refrain from tribal politics.”

Sudi’s comments came shortly after the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) condemned the Ruto administration for unfulfilled promises, with clergy members suggesting that a “culture of lies” was replacing integrity within government operations.

“The culture of lies is swiftly replacing the integrity and respect that Kenyans deserve. Basically, it is seen that the truth does not exist and if it does, it is what the government says,” read part of the statement from the clergy.

Archbishop Muheria, who has recently been vocal in addressing issues within the administration, has also criticized the establishment of the new Social Health Authority.

“With the shift from NHIF to SHIF, it appears that the welfare of the sick—those who die because they can’t access services—was not fully considered,” Muheria remarked in a previous address.
