The Kenyan government has assured the public and international guests of robust security measures ahead of the much-anticipated African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025 tournament, scheduled to kick off in Nairobi.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accompanied by Sports CS Salim Mvurya, today conducted a joint inspection of Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums on Monday afternoon to assess the state of preparedness for the continental football event.
Murkomen commended the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports for fast-tracking the completion of renovations at both stadiums and their training grounds. “With over 18 African nations expected to participate, this tournament will spotlight Kenya’s capabilities not only in sport but also in hosting global events,” he said.
To ensure the safety of teams, officials, and fans, the Ministry of Interior has rolled out an integrated security plan. This includes installation of advanced CCTV surveillance systems, establishment of controlled access points, deployment of crowd control personnel, emergency response units, and a coordinated presence of security officers across all venues.
Additionally, Murkomen noted improvements in immigration and visa processing to ease the entry of international delegations and minimize congestion at border points. “Our goal is to ensure seamless arrivals and a safe, welcoming experience for all guests,” he added.
The Interior CS called on Kenyans to rally behind the tournament by attending matches, assisting visiting guests, and portraying the country’s renowned hospitality. “This is a chance to show the world the best of Kenya,” Murkomen said.
CHAN 2025 is expected to be one of the biggest sporting events hosted by Kenya in recent years, reinforcing the country’s position as a key destination for international tournaments.
