With the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 just weeks away, a high-level delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has arrived in Kenya for a final round of inspections and consultations ahead of the tournament.
The delegation landed in the country on Thursday, July 4, and is expected to remain until July 6, assessing Kenya’s preparedness to co-host the regional showpiece alongside Uganda and Tanzania under the East African joint bid, Pamoja.
The officials are visiting key sporting venues in Nairobi, including Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and the Nyayo National Stadium. These two venues are scheduled to host multiple matches, including the highly anticipated final set for Kasarani.
The inspection tour marks a critical milestone for Kenya as it works to prove its capability in staging a successful CAF tournament for the first time under the joint bid.
As part of the visit, the CAF team is holding consultative meetings with the CHAN-AFCON Multi-Agency Team and the national Project Oversight Council. These sessions bring together key actors from various government ministries, infrastructure departments, and security agencies to streamline preparations on multiple fronts—from stadium infrastructure and transport systems to accommodation, media coordination, and emergency response protocols.
On Thursday, the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Internal Security reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a secure and well-coordinated event, highlighting the progress in security planning and inter-agency collaboration.
CAF’s recommendations following this tour will be critical in determining the final readiness of the country as the countdown to the August kickoff enters its final phase.
