Kenyan football fans will soon enjoy free access to top-tier European football matches, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between TV47 and SportyTV.
The two broadcasters have signed a deal to simulcast major European football leagues—including the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga—throughout the 2025/26 season.
This means millions of Kenyans who lack access to subscription TV will now be able to watch world-class football on free-to-air platforms. SportyTV, which holds the official broadcasting rights, will allow TV47 to air matches live and concurrently, significantly expanding viewership across the country.
To complement the TV broadcasts, Radio47 will provide live commentary and in-depth analysis, offering an alternative for fans on the move or in regions with limited TV signal coverage.
The move marks a significant shift in Kenya’s television landscape, where premium sports content has long been dominated by pay-TV providers. According to a 2023 report by the Communications Authority of Kenya, only about 15 per cent of Kenyan households subscribe to paid TV services—making this deal a major victory for the majority of viewers.

TV47, under Cape Media Group, has been ramping up its sports programming in recent months, having previously aired the Kenyan Premier League and FIFA Club World Cup. SportyTV, already active in other African markets, is known for forging partnerships that widen access to premium content.
In terms of popularity, an Infotrak report in 2024 ranked TV47 as the fifth most-watched TV station in Kenya with a market share of 25 per cent. The top spot was held by NTV with 65 per cent, followed by KTN (61 per cent), KBC (37 per cent), and K24 (30 per cent). Other stations in the top ten included KTN News, Citizen TV, and Inooro TV.
With this latest move, TV47 aims to cement its position as a leading source for quality sports content, giving football enthusiasts across Kenya an opportunity to follow their favourite teams and leagues without paying a cent.
