It is yet another heartbreaking moment following the untimely and painful demise of a young girl who was murdered at her home in Mwiki Phase 3, Kasarani, Nairobi county.
While residents protested the death of Abigael Wanjiku, another young life was lost in the demonstrations.
Joshua, the young man, was part of the group demanding justice for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate.
When was Wanjiku killed? Facebook user Derrick Mbugua shared the heartbreaking news a day after Wanjiku’s death, which occurred on the night of Thursday, June 19.
“A young man was shot dead earlier today by police. Joshua was among hundreds of protesters who came out to demand justice for a young girl named Abigael Mugure Shiku, who was killed in her mother’s house in Mwiki Phase 3,” he posted.
The activist also shared a photo of Joshua in the hospital after he was reportedly shot by police during the chaotic protest.
He lay on a hospital bed with a bandage on his head and several tubes around his body, as two medical officers stood by his side. How was Joshua shot by the police?
“May justice prevail for the two souls. Rest in peace, Shiku and Joshua,” he said.
Joshua was a victim of the protests after police officers were deployed to the area to restore order. However, a confrontation between the police and residents escalated, leading to the use of force to disperse the crowd.
Unfortunately, Joshua was shot during the unrest, as several residents fled for their lives.
How did Wanjiku die?
The demonstrators had gathered to demand justice for Wanjiku, an innocent 18-year-old girl.
She had been found dead at home shortly after taking a sweater to her mother, who sells snacks by the roadside. A woman recounted that Wanjiku had left around 8 p.m. to see her mother, not knowing it would be the last time they would speak.
When she returned home, Wanjiku — an aspiring fashion model — was attacked and killed by unknown assailants.
