Molo Member of Parliament Kuria Kimani has been elected as the new chairperson of the Africa Young Parliamentarians Network (AYPN).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, November 13, the MP shared that young parliamentarians from across the continent had unanimously elected him as chair during a meeting held in Ethiopia.
Kuria Kimani will be deputized by Hon. Mohamed Kari from Comoros. Other key leaders elected include Vuyolwethu Zungula (South Africa) as Secretary-General, Hon. Dr. Zaroua Ouma (Chad) as Treasurer, and Hon. Amira Saber (Egypt) as Organizing Secretary.
“I am deeply grateful to the leaders for entrusting me with the leadership of this important organization. God bless Africa YPN,” the MP remarked in his statement.
The Africa Young Parliamentarians Network is a platform that unites young lawmakers from across the continent. During their meeting in Ethiopia, the network discussed pressing issues such as corruption, governance, and the continent’s growing debt crisis.
“Given the mounting debt across Africa, it is critical that we address corruption challenges and explore solutions. This underscores the need for regional cooperation, strong legislative reforms, and empowering the youth to lead Africa’s future,” the statement read in part.
Through collaborations with regional and international partners, as well as civil society organizations (CSOs), AYPN aims to empower the next generation of African leaders, promoting transparent, accountable, and sustainable governance for a better future for the continent.
