The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened applications for the recruitment of assessors for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical examinations.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, June 10, KNEC invited qualified secondary school teachers and college tutors to apply for the positions in eight subject areas. The application window will run for 50 days, from June 10 to July 30, 2025.

“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) wishes to recruit secondary school teachers/college tutors as assessors for KCSE oral and practical papers between 10th June and 30th July 2025,” the Council announced.

According to KNEC, successful applicants will receive on-the-job training during the assessment of the 2025 KCSE papers.

Vacancies are available in the following subject areas: Power Mechanics, Electricity, Aviation Technology, French Oral, German Oral, Arabic Oral, Kenyan Sign Language (Signing Practical), and Music Practical.

Application Process

All applications must be submitted through the official KNEC Examiners’ Portal via the Contracted Professionals Portal (CP2).

Applicants with existing CP2 accounts must log in and update their profiles. Those who have forgotten their passwords are advised to use the “Reset Password” option and enter their mobile numbers in the format (2547********) to retrieve new login credentials.

New applicants must create CP2 accounts and follow the instructions to generate login details. Once logged in, candidates should complete their profiles and then click on the “Apply for Assessors’ Vacancies” option. All available positions will be displayed on the dashboard for selection.

KNEC noted that the slots are limited and only applicants who meet all requirements and provide the necessary documentation will be shortlisted.

Qualification Criteria

To qualify, an applicant must:

  • Be a practising teacher or tutor in the relevant subject.
  • Be registered and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or a recognised professional body.
  • Hold a Diploma or higher qualification in Education or the relevant subject area. Applicants for Aviation Technology must possess a Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.
  • Have at least three years of teaching experience in the relevant subject.
  • Not be under investigation or facing disciplinary action from their employer.
  • Be recommended by their head of institution or employer.
  • Be 50 years of age or younger.

Payment and Allowances

Assessors are typically paid between Ksh50 and Ksh70 per script, depending on the subject. They are also entitled to travel allowances based on their assessment centre locations.

KNEC encouraged all qualified professionals to apply before the deadline to be part of the team that ensures credible and fair assessment of practical and oral KCSE papers.
