Kenyan athletes delivered standout performances at the 2025 Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, with Beatrice Chebet’s near-record-breaking run in the women’s 3000 meters leading the charge.

Chebet’s Spectacular 3000m Performance

Beatrice Chebet dominated the women’s 3000 meters, finishing with a time of 8:11.56—the second-fastest in history. This remarkable achievement places her just behind Wang Junxia’s 1993 world record of 8:06.11. Chebet’s performance underscores her status as a leading figure in long-distance running and sets the stage for a promising season ahead.

Wanyonyi Secures Podium Finish in Men’s 800m

In the men’s 800 meters, Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi secured a third-place finish with a time of 1:43.15. The race was won by Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela, who clocked a world-leading 1:42.70 on his 26th birthday. Wanyonyi’s performance keeps him in strong contention as he continues his Diamond League title defense

Strong Showings in Women’s 800m

Kenyan athletes Eunice Jepkoech Sum and Margaret Nyairera Wambui delivered commendable performances in the women’s 800 meters. Sum finished fourth with a time of 1:59.32, while Wambui closely followed in fifth at 1:59.09. The event was won by Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma, who edged out South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso with a time of 1:57.42.

Notable Performances in Women’s 5000m

In the women’s 5000 meters, Kenyan runners Edinah Jebitok and Janet Kisa showcased their endurance. Jebitok secured a third-place finish with a time of 14:35.64, while Kisa finished fourth at 14:38.70. The race was won by Ethiopia’s Medina Eisa, who clocked 14:34.16
