The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has commenced a three-day inspection visit in Kenya to assess the country’s readiness to co-host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), scheduled to take place in August alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

The CAF delegation, led by Third Vice President and CHAN Organizing Committee Chair Pierre Alain Mounguengui, is evaluating key infrastructure and logistical preparations as the countdown to the tournament intensifies.

During a high-level meeting with the visiting officials, Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to meet CAF requirements and deliver a top-tier football event.

“We welcome the support that CAF has accorded Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania during this critical preparation period,” said Mvurya. “I want to assure CAF that Kenya is ready, and we have aligned our systems to fully support CAF in delivering a stellar event.”

The CS noted that the three co-hosting nations are progressing well in discussions aimed at facilitating cross-border movement for fans, athletes, and officials during the championship.

“The countries have progressed well in mobility discussions aimed at removing logistical bottlenecks,” he said. “We will be updating CAF soon with feedback on the decisions reached by our respective governments.”

CAF’s Mounguengui praised the commitment demonstrated by the host nations but called on all stakeholders to expedite completion of the remaining infrastructure to ensure full readiness ahead of the August 2nd to 30th tournament.

The 2025 CHAN tournament is expected to draw thousands of fans and participants to the region, offering East Africa a valuable opportunity to showcase its capacity to host international sporting events and deepen regional collaboration in sports development.
