Dualling of Rironi-Mau Summit Highway to Begin in July, Government Confirms

Date:

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway will commence in July this year, as part of the government’s broader efforts to improve road safety and boost transport efficiency across key regions of the country.

Speaking today during the funeral service for six of the twelve victims who died in last week’s tragic accident at the Arimi-Cheponde Bridge along the Elburgon-Njoro Road, the Deputy President confirmed that the project will be delivered through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

“The dualling of Rironi-Mau Summit Highway will begin in July this year to enhance the safety of travellers and facilitate easier and effective movement of people and goods to and from Rift Valley, Western and Nyanza regions. The Government of Kenya has secured funding through a Puplic-Private-Partnership to construct the Rironi-Mau Summit Highway.” The DP confirmed.

He further expressed the government’s condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a quick recovery to those injured in the crash. He also assured them of government support, including access to quality medical services.

In response to the accident, engineers from the Ministry of Roads and Transport have been instructed to immediately assess and recalibrate the Arimi-Cheponde Bridge to ensure its safety for all road users.

The funeral in Arimi, Molo Constituency, was attended by Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika, Nakuru County Woman Representative Liza Chelule, Molo MP Kuria Kimani, local MCAs, and other grassroots leaders.

The Rironi-Mau Summit Highway upgrade is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, minimize accidents, and improve economic connectivity across western Kenya.
