The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 5,690 job openings for school principals, deputy principals, headteachers, and deputy headteachers across the country.
In a notice released by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the Commission is seeking qualified applicants to fill these leadership roles.
The positions include 755 vacancies for principals at Grade D3 and T-scale 13, as well as 816 openings for deputy principals III at Grade D1 and T-scale 11.
Additionally, TSC is hiring 1,208 headteachers at Grade C5 and T-scale 10, and 2,911 deputy headteachers at Grade C4 and T-scale 9.
Macharia urged eligible candidates to submit their applications online via the TSC portal, www.teachersonline.go.ke, by midnight on November 18, 2024.
She emphasized that manual applications would not be considered, and selected candidates will be assigned to regions with existing vacancies.
This announcement follows the Commission’s recent advertisement for 46,000 teaching positions to be filled by January 2025. These earlier posts included 6,000 positions for primary schools, 39,550 for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS), and 450 for secondary schools.
Following the advertisement, TSC received 314,117 applications between October 1 and 8, 2024.
Appearing before the Parliamentary Education Committee, Macharia said of the applications, 93,646 were for primary teacher posts against the 6,000 advertised, 144, 177 were for JSS teachers against the 39,550 posts advertised.
She added that the Commission had received 76,294 applications for the 450 secondary school teacher posts it advertised.
Macharia told MPs that they were allocated Sh1 billion for the promotion of teachers in the 2024/2025 financial year.
