UDA Party Ready for Phase Two of Grassroots Elections Across 22 Counties

Date:

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has entered the final stretch in preparations for the second phase of its nationwide grassroots elections, with the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) flagging off the distribution of voting materials to 22 counties ahead of the April 11 and 12 polls.

NEB Chairperson Eng. Anthony Mwaura, accompanied by board member Ferrah Etyang, personally oversaw the dispatch of the election kits from the party’s central warehouse along Mombasa Road. The highly anticipated internal elections have drawn participation from more than 119,000 aspirants vying for various party positions.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Eng. Mwaura reaffirmed the NEB’s commitment to upholding transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the electoral process.

“We are fully prepared to conduct free, fair, and credible grassroots elections. We urge all candidates and their supporters to observe peace and abide by the law,” he stated.

Polling will take place in two phases. On Friday, April 11, registered UDA members in Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, Kisii, and Nyamira will cast their votes. The following day, Saturday, April 12, the exercise will continue in Garissa, Tana River, Bungoma, Turkana, Migori, Kisumu, Siaya, Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu.

The grassroots elections are part of a broader party initiative to strengthen internal democracy and restructure its leadership from the bottom up ahead of the 2027 general elections.

UDA’s grassroots poll exercise is being closely watched as a test of the party’s organizational strength and unity, with the NEB promising to deliver a seamless process across all participating counties.
