Several regions across Kenya are expected to experience continued rainfall over the next five days, beginning today, Saturday, April 5, through to Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, the country will see varied weather patterns during this period, including rainfall, thunderstorms, and periods of partly cloudy skies depending on the region.
Western Kenya and Rift Valley
In areas west of the Rift Valley—such as the Lake Victoria Basin and the central Rift Valley—residents should anticipate morning showers followed by afternoon thunderstorms. Rain is also forecast to persist into the night, though it will ease slightly by midweek. Daytime temperatures are expected to stay between 31°C and 32°C, with nighttime lows of around 10°C.
Central Kenya and Nairobi
The central highlands, including Nairobi and its surrounding areas, will similarly see wet mornings, followed by thunderstorms later in the day. Director of Meteorological Services, David Gikungu, noted that rainfall is likely to continue into the night, but the weather should begin to stabilize by Wednesday.
“Daytime temperatures are projected to reach up to 28°C, while night-time lows will range between 10°C and 12°C,” Gikungu said.
North-eastern Counties
In the north-east—including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo—morning showers are expected in a few areas, followed by isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Evenings will remain mostly cloudy, with occasional light rain. Temperatures are forecast to climb to 39°C on Tuesday, before dropping slightly to 38°C by Wednesday.
North-western Kenya
Residents of Turkana and Samburu should prepare for dry, hot conditions in the morning, with the possibility of afternoon showers and isolated night-time rainfall. Temperatures in these regions will fluctuate between 11°C in the morning and up to 37°C in the afternoon.
South-eastern Lowlands
Counties including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta can expect warm mornings with sunny intervals, followed by rain showers later in the day and at night. Maximum temperatures will hover between 33°C and 35°C, with minimums of around 15°C to 16°C.
Coastal Region
At the Coast—covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale—showers are expected during the morning and afternoon hours, with the evenings likely to be partly cloudy. The forecast shows daytime highs of 34°C to 35°C, and night-time temperatures between 23°C and 25°C.
The Met Department has urged the public to remain vigilant and stay updated with daily forecasts, particularly in regions prone to flash floods or extreme temperatures.
