Ethiopian Airlines Takes Delivery of Africa’s First Airbus A350-1000

In a historic event for African aviation, Ethiopian Airlines announced the arrival of the continent’s first Airbus A350-1000 on November 5, 2024.

The aircraft, which boasts state-of-the-art technology and environmental efficiency, landed at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to a warm welcome from dignitaries, industry leaders, and aviation enthusiasts.

“Kilimanjaro extends a warm and colourful welcome to Africa’s first Airbus A350-1000!” Ethiopian airline noted on X.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Modern Fleet Addition: This A350-1000 is the first of four ordered by Ethiopian Airlines, underscoring their strategy to offer passengers one of the most advanced and comfortable flying experiences available.

Aircraft Specifications: Configured with 46 business class seats and 349 economy seats, the plane is designed to provide maximum comfort and efficiency. Its features include a carbon-fiber fuselage, cutting-edge aerodynamics, and Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, all contributing to reduced fuel consumption and lower emissions.

Strategic Routes: The A350-1000 will primarily service long-haul flights to destinations like Washington D.C., London, Paris, and Frankfurt, enhancing connectivity and capacity on these high-demand routes.

Vision 2035: This acquisition aligns with Ethiopian Airlines’ Vision 2035, aiming to double the airline’s capacity, targeting 67 million passengers annually and striving for revenue of $25 billion.

Celebratory Atmosphere: The delivery was celebrated with an event at Bole International Airport, attended by a mix of government officials, airline executives, and international partners, marking a significant milestone in Ethiopian Airlines’ long history.
