President William Ruto held a telephone conversation with United States President-elect Donald Trump on Friday, November 8, extending his congratulations on Trump’s election victory.
According to an update shared on his social media pages, President Ruto highlighted that the two leaders discussed key areas of mutual interest to strengthen ties between Kenya and the US.
“I have had a telephone conversation with US President-Elect Donald Trump. I congratulated him following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. We discussed areas of mutual interest that are of benefit to the citizens of our two countries, including trade and investment, security, and good governance,” President Ruto stated.
Ruto further mentioned that he briefed Trump on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, sharing potential avenues for collaboration with the US on this critical peace initiative.
“I briefed President Trump on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti and possible areas of cooperation with the US government on this important conflict resolution initiative,” he added.
The call with Trump comes shortly after a similar discussion Ruto held with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. On Thursday, November 7, Ruto shared details of his constructive conversation with Blinken, where they explored the possibility of transitioning the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti into a UN peacekeeping operation.
“I have had a constructive conversation with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti. We discussed the transition of the mission into a UN peacekeeping operation to enhance the capability of the mission to help stabilize,” Ruto posted on X.
Ruto added that Kenya and the United States are committed to strengthening collaboration in key governance areas. “Kenya and the United States are continuously working together to enhance our collaboration to ensure improved governance. This includes the fight against corruption and provision of capacity building to make our security institutions more efficient, effective, and accountable in the discharge of their mandate,” he added.
