A Kenyan police officer deployed under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti has been hospitalized after sustaining injuries during an operation.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 18, MSS Spokesperson Jack Ombaka confirmed that the officer was injured while conducting a security operation in Kenscoff, within the Belot area. He was immediately evacuated to ASPEN Level 2 Hospital, where he is receiving medical care and is in stable condition.

“Today, Tuesday, 18th March 2025, a member of the MSS Kenyan contingent was injured while conducting a security operation in Kenscoff, within the Belot area. The officer was promptly evacuated to ASPEN Level 2 Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention and is in stable condition,” the statement read in part.

MSS expressed appreciation to Haitians and others who have extended their well wishes for the officer’s swift recovery. Ombaka assured that updates on his progress would be shared through official MSS social media platforms.

“We extend our gratitude to all Haitians of goodwill and others who have expressed their wishes for a swift recovery. We will continue to provide updates through our official social media channels as necessary,” he added.

Ombaka also highlighted that the mission was currently in a crucial phase of operations and thanked the Haitian people for their cooperation.

The latest incident comes a month after a Kenyan police officer, Samuel Tompoi Kaetuai, was killed during an MSS operation.

MSS Force Commander Godfrey Otunge revealed that Kaetuai sustained injuries on February 23 during a security operation at Pont Sonde in the Artibonite department. He was rushed to Level 2 Hospital at LSA 1 but succumbed while receiving treatment.

His body was repatriated to Kenya on March 10 and received at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Gilbert Masengeli. It was then transferred to Chiromo Mortuary for preservation as burial arrangements commenced.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja later led senior officers in condoling with Kaetuai’s family at Naserian Village, Kajiado East Sub-County, Kajiado County.
