In a landmark move toward national unity and transformation, President William Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) signed a joint framework agreement on March 7, 2025, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). This agreement marks a collaborative effort between Kenya’s largest political movements — Kenya Kwanza and ODM — to tackle the country’s pressing social, economic, and political challenges.

During his address, President Ruto acknowledged the unprecedented global and domestic pressures affecting Kenya, including technological, geopolitical, climatic, and demographic changes. These pressures, he said, have created an atmosphere of immense pressure and existential crisis, making the call for transformative change more urgent than ever.

“Kenyans have expressed a deep and widespread yearning for positive change and transformation that leaves no one behind,” President Ruto stated. He emphasized the nation’s shared aspiration for progress and the importance of unity in pursuing meaningful reforms.

The joint framework agreement is grounded in the understanding that, while political parties may differ in strategy, they share a common goal: to build a united, secure, and prosperous Kenya. President Ruto described the moment as a historic opportunity for leaders to rise above political differences and work toward a vision of a better Kenya.

The agreement commits both parties to implementing the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, which outlines solutions to key national issues. These include the high cost of living, youth unemployment, gender inclusion, and strengthening devolution. The leaders also pledged to foster inclusivity in governance and development, invest in opportunities for the youth, uphold integrity in leadership, and safeguard the right to peaceful assembly.

Additionally, the agreement emphasizes responsible financial management and transparency. Both parties committed to reducing Kenya’s debt burden through responsible borrowing, auditing past debts, and eliminating public resource wastage. President Ruto reiterated their determination to fight corruption and uphold the rule of law and constitutionalism.

“Our goal is a just, equitable, and prosperous Kenya for all,” President Ruto concluded, urging all Kenyans to support the collaborative efforts toward national transformation.

This historic agreement signals a new chapter for Kenya, one where unity and cooperation take precedence over political rivalry, paving the way for sustainable development and inclusive growth.
