In a decisive move against corruption, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Geoffrey Muchiri, a member of the Tigania West Lands Control Board, on allegations of soliciting bribes for land transaction approvals.
The arrest was prompted by a complaint from a member of the public who claimed Muchiri had demanded a bribe to facilitate the transfer of a 0.25-hectare plot of land. The complainant had already sold the property and needed the Board’s consent to complete the transaction. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, EACC investigators set up a sting operation and caught the suspect in the act, allegedly receiving the bribe.
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a total of Kshs. 70,000, suspected to be proceeds of corruption. Muchiri was immediately taken into custody and booked at Isiolo Police Station, where further legal processing is underway. Authorities are expected to pursue charges of receiving a bribe and abuse of office.
The EACC has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on corruption and unethical practices in public service delivery. The commission has been conducting a series of operations targeting service points known for graft, aiming to promote transparency and accountability in government institutions.
In a statement, the EACC encouraged members of the public to report corruption cases without fear of victimization.
As the investigation unfolds, the EACC remains steadfast in its mission to root out corruption and ensure integrity prevails in public service across the nation.
