Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has clarified that the dumping of waste outside the Stima Plaza gate was unintentional.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, February 26, Sakaja explained that the county government had only intended to park the trucks outside the gate. However, he admitted that one official took advantage of the situation and dumped garbage at the location, adding that the matter would be addressed internally.

“It was unfortunate that one of the trucks tipped garbage. That was not the intention, which is why the waste was cleared in less than 30 minutes,” he stated.

“That is not how Nairobi County operates, and the action will be dealt with internally.”

Sakaja also revealed that following a meeting convened by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the county government and Kenya Power had reached an agreement on the issue.

As part of the resolutions, Nairobi County will remove all trucks stationed outside Kenya Power facilities. Additionally, the county will restore water and sewer services to the utility firm.

Regarding outstanding bills, Sakaja and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi are set to meet and discuss how to resolve pending debts between the two entities.

Sakaja noted that Kenya Power owes the county approximately Ksh4.9 billion, while Nairobi County has an outstanding electricity bill of Ksh3 billion.
