EACC Pursues Nakuru Water Company Over KSH158 Million Graft Case

Date:

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has intensified efforts to combat graft, targeting the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company Limited (NAWASSCO) in an ongoing corruption probe. The Commission clarified its search operation at the company’s offices on 20th February 2025, emphasizing that it was a lawful step in investigating allegations of abuse of office and embezzlement of public funds.

According to the EACC, senior officials at NAWASSCO are suspected of misappropriating Kes 158,593,495 between the financial years 2018/19 and 2023/24. In pursuit of justice, the Commission obtained search warrants that authorized its investigators to access specific premises, including NAWASSCO’s offices and the residences of implicated officials.

The operation was conducted in accordance with the warrants, leading to the seizure of documents and other critical evidence relevant to the case. However, the EACC clarified that no individuals were arrested or detained during the search. Instead, NAWASSCO officials were summoned to record statements at the Commission’s South Rift Regional office in Nakuru.

This move signals the EACC’s firm stance on corruption in public institutions. The Commission reiterated its commitment to holding accountable those responsible for mismanaging public funds, urging the public to support its anti-corruption efforts.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the EACC vowing to follow through with legal action should substantial evidence be uncovered. This case highlights the growing scrutiny on financial management within public institutions, reinforcing the watchdog’s dedication to transparency and justice.
