CAK Mourns Legendary Broadcaster Leonard Mambo Mbotela on World Radio Day

Date:

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has paid tribute to the late Leonard Mambo Mbotela, one of Kenya’s most celebrated radio broadcasters, in a heartfelt condolence message on World Radio Day.

Mbotela, who was widely regarded as Kenya’s finest radio presenter, spent over 50 years on air, captivating audiences with his distinctive voice, charisma, and deep passion for broadcasting. His legacy remains deeply rooted in Kenya’s media industry, where he played a pioneering role in shaping radio journalism.

In a statement issued by CAK’s Director General and CEO, David Mugonyi on 13th February World Radio day, the authority described Mbotela as a cultural icon, a professional par excellence, and an inspiration to generations of broadcasters.

“As we celebrate World Radio Day, we recognize the poignant absence of a pioneer and icon whose contribution and impact epitomize what this day is truly about,” said Mugonyi.

Mbotela is best remembered for his popular radio program “Je, Huu Ni Uungwana?”, where he engaged listeners in thought-provoking discussions about ethics and social values. His ability to connect with audiences and deliver compelling content made him a household name in Kenya and beyond.

The CAK noted that his longevity in the industry underscores the power of radio in informing society, bringing people together, and shaping the moral arc of the nation.

As the media industry marked World Radio Day, the CAK joined Kenyans in mourning the loss of a legend. The authority extended its deepest condolences to Mbotela’s family, acknowledging the indelible mark he left on Kenya’s broadcasting landscape.

While Mbotela may no longer be with us, his voice, wisdom, and contributions to radio journalism will continue to inspire future generations.
