Murang’a County has been ranked as the top-performing county in Kenya, according to the latest findings by research firm InfoTrak. Governor Irungu Kang’ata emerged as the best-performing governor with a rating of 68 percent.
The County Index report, released on Tuesday, February 11, placed Murang’a at the top with a 52 percent score, followed closely by Homa Bay at 51 percent. Trans Nzoia and Kirinyaga tied for third place with 48 percent each, while Kisii, Nyeri, and Kisumu secured the fifth spot, each scoring 47 percent.
Counties that ranked eighth in performance, with a 46 percent score, include Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet. Others in this category are Makueni, Bungoma, Kiambu, and Lamu.
On individual governor rankings, Kang’ata led the list, followed by Trans Nzoia’s George Natembeya, who scored 64 percent, while Homa Bay’s Gladys Wanga secured third place with 61 percent.
Other governors who made it to the top 10 include Kisumu’s Anyang’ Nyong’o (59 percent), Makueni’s Mutula Kilonzo Jr. (57 percent), Elgeyo Marakwet’s Wisley Rotich (57 percent), Kisii’s Simba Arati (55 percent), Kilifi’s Gideon Mung’aro (54 percent), Nyeri’s Mutahi Kahiga (54 percent), and Kiambu’s Kimani Wamatangi (53 percent).
According to Infotrak CEO Angela Ambitho, effective governance strategies played a significant role in the rankings. “The best-performing counties have live dashboards to monitor different sectors, ensuring efficiency and accountability,” she noted.
