President William Ruto will on Friday 6th February land in Kisumu County to preside over the official opening of the Nyanza International Investment Conference, a high-profile event aimed at showcasing the region as a prime destination for investment and development.

The conference slated to take place at Ciala resort within the Kisumu city is expected to  attract business leaders, investors, professionals, and government officials and poised to unlock new economic opportunities for Nyanza.

On the other hand, political events are also expected to dominate the visit since the President will also make stop overs to engage with local leaders and residents of Kisumu and its neighboring counties.  The lakeside city has long been considered a stronghold of opposition leader Raila Odinga who recently merged forces with Ruto in the formation of a broad-based government hence ending the political differences which have been o for a longer time.

The visit will also see the residents and the region receive government goodies ranging from development projects to financial aids, a factor which has been missing out in the region because of being in opposition.

In less than a year, Willliam Ruto has made about seven tours to the six counties in Nyanza with his administration’s outreach efforts, coupled with large-scale infrastructure projects gradually reshaping the political dynamics of the region

Ruto’s increasing presence also signals an attempt to strengthen ties with local communities ahead of the 2027 general elections which have started to take over the country’s political scenes. In the last 2022 polls, Ruto was the post unpopular presidential candidate in Nyanza as the region voted massively in favor of his then rival Raila Odinga and political analysts argue that he it will be a boost for his reelection if the truce with the region lasts.
