President William Ruto has disclosed details of his phone conversation with King Charles III of the United Kingdom, reaffirming Kenya’s strong diplomatic ties with Britain.
In an update on Monday, February 3, Ruto stated that their discussion focused on key areas of cooperation, including environmental conservation and regional security.
“I have had a telephone conversation with His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom. We discussed Kenya’s long-standing and close ties with the United Kingdom,” Ruto said.
“I am glad that Kenya and the United Kingdom share a common passion for nature and climate conservation. We also discussed regional peace and security and Kenya’s role in ensuring stability,” he added.
The phone call comes more than a year after King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited Kenya.
Between October 31 and November 3, 2023, the royal couple undertook a four-day state visit, marking King Charles’s first official trip to a Commonwealth nation as monarch.
During the visit, President Ruto received King Charles and Queen Camilla at State House, Nairobi, where the King inspected a guard of honor.
The visit focused on key areas such as education, innovation, agriculture, and military cooperation.
King Charles visited the Eastlands Library in Nairobi to learn about ongoing efforts to restore libraries and promote reading among children.
At Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, he toured City Shamba, an urban farming initiative promoting sustainable agriculture.
He also met entrepreneurs at Nairobi Garage, a technology and innovation hub, engaging in discussions on advancements in the sector.
In Mombasa, King Charles observed a military drill by the British-trained Kenya Marines and visited environmental conservation projects.
