MP Nelson Koech asks CS Muturi to resign

Date:

Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech now wants Public Service Minister Justice Muturi resign from his cabinet position following his continuous criticism of the Kenya Kwanza government on the increased number of reported abductions.

Speaking during a live interview on Monday morning, the lawmaker who also chairs the defence committee in the national assembly maintained that the CS should not be among those attacking the ruling government.

“Cs Muturi wants to make a political milage out of this situation. I understand there are very genuine cases, there are very genuine people who wants these cases sorted, I don’t see it in CS Muturi he is simply a man who is daring the president to fire him. He is a man who wants to make a political capital out of a situation if he is moral enough, he should have resigned if he does not want to work with this government,” Koech said.

In June 2024, during heightened anti-government protests, Leslie Muturi, who is the CS’s son was reportedly abducted by individuals identified as agents of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). Despite Justin Muturi’s position as Attorney General and member of the National Security Council at the time, his initial attempts to locate his son through official channels were unsuccessful. It was allegedly only after President Ruto’s direct intervention, instructing NIS Director-General Noordin Haji to release Leslie, that he was freed.

Following this incident, Muturi has been vocal about the government’s role in these abductions. He has called for the establishment of a commission of inquiry to investigate the disappearances and killings, emphasizing that the government exists to protect its citizens, not harm them.
