President William Ruto has revoked the appointments of two state officers in changes announced through a gazette notice dated January 31, 2025.
According to Gazette Notice No. 968, Ruto revoked the appointment of Joe Owaka Ager as the Chairperson of the Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya Board.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) (a) of the State Corporations Act, as read together with section 51 (1) of the Interpretations and General Provisions Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, revoke the appointment of Joe Owaka Ager as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Pyrethrum Processing Company of Kenya, with effect from the 31st of January, 2025,” the notice stated.
Ager had previously served as Chairperson of the National Mining Corporation before Ruto revoked his appointment in December 2023. He was later appointed as Secretary of Governance in a fresh round of government advisory roles. During former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, Ager also chaired the Placement Board for the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) from 2018 to 2021.
Kiema Mwandia’s Appointment Revoked
In Gazette Notice No. 969, Ruto also revoked the appointment of Dr. Kiema Mwandia as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board, effective January 31, 2025.
New Appointments by Cabinet Secretaries
The same gazette notice included new appointments by various Cabinet Secretaries:
- Water CS Eric Mugaa appointed Nicholas Wambua Muthangya as a member of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency Board for a three-year term.
- Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano appointed Nancy Waturi Mathenge to the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees for three years.
- Education CS Julius Ogamba revoked Bob Ndubi’s appointment as a member of the Kisii University Council, effective January 31, 2025.
- Defence CS Soipan Tuya appointed Col. (Dr.) C. O. Ondego, Col. S. C. Yator, Col. (Rtd.) L. L. Muluvi, Col. (Rtd.) M. M. Nchuurai, and Elly Onger to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Pension Appeals Committee for a three-year term.
