Cabinet Secretaries from various ministries have made fresh appointments and revoked others as part of efforts to enhance efficiency within their respective dockets.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, January 31, Defence Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya announced the formation of the Kenya Defence Forces Pensions Appeals Committee. The committee, appointed for a three-year term, includes Colonels Joseph Yator, Lewis Muluvi, and Muthomi Nchuurai, with Elly Onge appointed as the committee’s secretary.
In the Tourism Ministry, CS Rebecca Miano named Nancy Waturi as a member of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board of Trustees for a three-year term, while revoking the appointments of Peter Fredrick Moll and Edward Norton.
Labour CS Alfred Mutua also made significant changes, appointing Wesley Siele, Rachel Monyoncho, Francis Wangara, and Carolyn Chepkoech Rutto to the National Industrial Training Authority Board, also for a three-year term.
In the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, CS Eric Mugaa appointed Nicholas Wambua to the Board of Directors of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency, effective from January 31, 2025.
Education CS Julius Ogamba revoked the appointment of Bob Ndubi as a member of the Kisii University Council, effective January 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, Health CS Deborah Barasa appointed Leonard Sang to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital Board for a three-year term.
Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe, who was recently appointed to the Agriculture docket, declared the domesticated Water Buffalo a food animal under the Meat Control Act, a notable move in the agricultural sector.
Treasury CS John Mbadi extended the term of the Pending Bills and Verification Committee, initially appointed on September 30, 2023. The committee, tasked with reviewing pending government bills accumulated from June 1, 2005, to June 30, 2022, will now include additional members such as Edward Ouko, Tirop Kosgey, and Ali Abdulrazaq, among others. The committee will also provide recommendations for the settlement of the pending bills.
