The selection panel for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened the application process for individuals interested in serving as the commission’s chairperson or commissioners.

Applications will be received from February 1 to February 15 as efforts intensify to reconstitute the electoral body ahead of the next general election.

In an official announcement, the panel invited qualified candidates who meet the constitutional and legal requirements to submit their applications for consideration.

“The selection panel for the recruitment of nominees for the appointment as the Chairperson and Commissioners of the IEBC invites applications from qualified persons who satisfy the provisions of the Constitution and the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission Act.”

To qualify for the position of IEBC chairperson, applicants must have at least 15 years of experience as a superior court judge, a distinguished academic, a legal practitioner, a judicial officer, or relevant experience in a related field.

Additionally, candidates must meet the leadership and integrity requirements outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.

The notice also specified individuals who are ineligible for the chairperson’s role. Those who have held elective office or contested for political positions in the last five years do not qualify for the job.

Additionally, anyone currently serving as a member of a political party’s governing body or holding a state office is barred from applying.

For those interested in becoming IEBC commissioners, applicants must possess a valid university degree from a recognized institution and have at least 10 years of experience in fields such as electoral matters, law, governance, public administration, finance, ICT, accounting, or management.

Like the chairperson position, applicants must also adhere to Chapter Six of the Constitution on leadership and integrity.

The selection panel has directed that all applications must include certified academic credentials, a curriculum vitae (CV), a national ID or passport, and other supporting testimonials.

The panel has assured the public that the recruitment process will be conducted transparently, emphasizing that the new IEBC team will be in place within 85 days or less to begin preparations for the upcoming elections.
