The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed reports circulating on social and mainstream media that Justus Mutumwa, one of the Mlolongo abductees, was found dead yesterday.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja clarified on Thursday evening that police were alerted on December 18, 2024, about a body floating in the Nairobi River near Ruai.
According to Kanja, the discovery was made by a woman who had gone to irrigate her crops near the river. Meanwhile, Mutumwa’s family reported his disappearance at Athi River Police Station on December 21, three days after he allegedly went missing.
Kanja revealed that the body remained unidentified at the city mortuary until forensic investigations confirmed yesterday that it belonged to Mutumwa. He termed media reports suggesting the body was discovered only yesterday as inaccurate and misleading.

The police boss assured Kenyans of the NPS’s commitment to investigating all abduction cases.
“The National Police Service reassures the public of its commitment to a thorough investigation of all Missing Persons reports. The public is urged to share any information using the toll-free lines: 999, 911, 112, and Fichua kwa DCI,” Kanja stated.
His remarks came hours after reports emerged that two of the Mlolongo abductees, Mutumwa and Martin Mwau, had been found dead at the Nairobi Funeral Home. Their families positively identified the bodies after over six weeks of searching.
The discoveries add to growing concerns over the abductions, which authorities, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), had repeatedly denied. Their disappearance on December 15 had prompted the High Court to summon DCI boss Mohamed Amin and IG Kanja to explain their whereabouts.
