BBC News journalist Ian Wafula is set to leave the international media house after nearly two years.

His departure was communicated to colleagues via email on Wednesday, January 29, with the message indicating that he would be leaving to pursue other career opportunities. However, his next move remains undisclosed.

Wafula, who has been serving as BBC’s Africa Security Correspondent, is expected to officially exit in mid-February.

“Ian has been an integral part of the Africa Content Hub and has made his mark reporting on major security stories across the continent,” the internal communication read in part.

Some of his notable coverage includes exclusive reports on the deployment of Kenyan police officers in Haiti, the Sudan conflict, the Ethiopia-Somalia border row, and insurgencies in Mozambique.

Wafula joined BBC News in October 2023, focusing on conflict and security issues across Africa. Before that, he worked at BBC between August 2018 and September 2022. His previous experience also includes stints at K24 and Kenya Television Network (KTN).
