Students who sat for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams now have 21 days to apply for placement in Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

This follows the launch of the placement portal by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) on Friday. For the first time, KUCCPS has introduced a phased application process to cater to early intakes for these institutions.

According to KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, the portal will remain open until February 14, 2025, to allow students aiming to join the March intake at KMTC and TVET colleges to apply on time.

“Universities and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) normally have their intakes later in the year, while KMTC and TVETs admit students in January, March, and May. Hence, the need to have a phased application process to ensure students can transition to colleges promptly,” Wahome explained.

The application process is open to all KCSE candidates from 2000 to 2024. Wahome also clarified that candidates re-sitting their KCSE exams this year can apply for KMTC and TVET programmes after improving their grades, with the next intake scheduled for September.

KMTC has increased training opportunities in 2025, offering spots in 90 campuses nationwide, up from 87 in 2024. Newly opened campuses include Kerio Valley, Marimanti, and Marsabit. Popular courses like the Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Diploma in Clinical Medicine, and Certificate in Community Health Assistant are now accessible at more campuses.

Similarly, over 260 TVET institutions, including national polytechnics and university TVET institutes, are accepting applications.

Wahome encouraged students to prioritize institutions close to home to reduce living costs.

“We encourage applicants to select TVET institutions and KMTC campuses within their localities as this will make it cheaper for them to operate from their homes,” she said.

Additionally, KMTC is introducing new courses, such as the Diploma in Health Insurance Management and the Diploma in Mortuary Science, to address the demand for skilled workers in the health sector.

“These courses will help provide professionals for the Universal Health Care programme and train morticians for the industry,” Wahome added.
