Janet Mbugua, a former Citizen TV news anchor, has joined the Nation Media Group (NMG), marking her return to mainstream media after an eight-year hiatus.
In a statement to staff on Friday, January 24, NMG’s Head of Broadcasting, Simaloi Dajom, announced Mbugua’s appointment, describing her as a seasoned media professional with extensive experience in engaging audiences across various platforms.
“I am excited to inform you that renowned media personality Janet Mbugua has joined Nation Media Group,” said Dajom. “Janet is highly skilled in engaging audiences on TV, radio, and digital media. She has previously worked as a prime-time news anchor, show host, and content producer for major outlets in Kenya and South Africa. Additionally, she is an advocate for inclusivity for women and girls and is passionate about amplifying voices for social change.”
Dajom did not specify the position Mbugua will hold but expressed confidence in her ability to contribute to the organization’s mission.
“She joins a vibrant team dedicated to delivering compelling, solution-driven content across our multimedia platforms. Please join me in extending a warm NMG welcome to Janet,” Dajom added.

She encouraged staff to support Mbugua as she transitions into her new role.
“Let us provide her with the support she needs to settle and thrive in her role as we drive our shared vision of positively influencing society,” she remarked.
Mbugua, who left Citizen TV in April 2017 after several years at Royal Media Services, brings a wealth of experience to NMG. Her return coincides with that of Eric Latiff, a former Standard Group journalist who also recently joined the Kimathi Street-based media house.
