Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has assured that staff from the defunct Kenya Water Towers Agency (KWTA) will be redeployed to various roles within the Ministry and its agencies based on their skills and competencies.
Speaking during a meeting with former KWTA staff, Duale, accompanied by Principal Secretaries Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry) and Dr. Eng. Festus Ng’eno (Environment and Climate Change), confirmed that a placement list had been finalized. The meeting took place at the Kenya Meteorological Department headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday.
According to the Cabinet Secretary, 68 employees will be assigned to the Environment and Climate Change State Department, while 45 will join the Forestry State Department. Duale emphasized that the redeployment process considered qualifications, rank, skills, experience, age, disabilities, and current duty stations to ensure fairness and efficiency.
“I urge you to uphold the public service code of conduct and principles of good governance as you transition to your new roles,” Duale told the former staff. He stressed the importance of professionalism and integrity in their service to the nation.
The Kenya Water Towers Agency, established through Legal Notice No. 27 on April 20, 2012, was mandated to coordinate and oversee the protection, rehabilitation, conservation, and sustainable management of the country’s water towers. However, the agency was dissolved in December 2024 following the expiry of its legal mandate and as part of a Cabinet-sanctioned rationalization of state corporations with overlapping or duplicate responsibilities.
This rationalization aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance efficiency and eliminate redundancies in public service operations.
