Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba

The High Court has upheld the Senate’s decision to suspend nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba for one session, dismissing her petition challenging the disciplinary action.

The court affirmed the findings of the Senate Committee on Powers and Privileges, which had investigated allegations of misconduct leveled against the senator.

Delivering the ruling, Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated that the committee acted within its constitutional and legislative mandate to maintain decorum and uphold the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament.

The suspension stemmed from Senator Orwoba’s public allegations against a Senate official. The committee determined that her actions breached parliamentary privilege and contravened established rules governing parliamentary conduct.

“The committee acted lawfully and within its mandate to safeguard the dignity and integrity of parliamentary proceedings,” Justice Mugambi noted.

The Senate Committee on Powers and Privileges was tasked with investigating Orwoba’s remarks and concluded that her actions violated the code designed to ensure orderly conduct among members.
