The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has denied reports circulating on social media that the withheld Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results for Lugulu Girls’ High School have been released.

On Wednesday, January 15, 2025, viral posts claimed that the Bungoma-based national school had received its results, reporting an impressive mean grade of 10.2265 and a 100 per cent transition rate to higher learning institutions.

KNEC swiftly addressed the misinformation, issuing a statement on their official social media accounts the same day. The council dismissed the viral images and posts as “FAKE” and reminded the public to rely only on official channels for updates.

“We urge members of the public to disregard unverified information and check for updates only through KNEC’s official communication platforms,” the statement read.

Lugulu Girls’ High School remains one of five institutions whose KCSE results have yet to be released, leaving students, parents, and educators in limbo.

The other schools affected include:

  • St Peter’s Abwao Secondary School (Migori County)
  • Mama Malia Academy (Kitui County)
  • Kipsingei Mixed Secondary School (Bomet County)
  • Katilu Boys High School (Turkana County)

The withholding of results, which began on January 9, 2025, has sparked speculation and concern, particularly as other schools celebrated their achievements.

On January 10, 2025, the administration of Lugulu Girls’ High School assured stakeholders that efforts were underway to resolve the matter.

In a communication to parents and guardians, the school confirmed that an appeal had been lodged with KNEC to address the issue.

“Dear parent/guardian, we are aware that your child has not yet received the examination results. Please rest assured that the matter is being addressed, and the results will be made available to you in due time,” read the message.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa also weighed in, dismissing rumors of result cancellations. Speaking on Saturday, January 11, 2025, Barasa revealed he had engaged Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, who clarified that the results were under additional scrutiny, not canceled.

“The results were not canceled; they were withheld for further verification,” Barasa said, expressing confidence that the issue would soon be resolved.

Accompanying their rebuttal of the viral claims, KNEC pledged to provide timely updates on the status of the withheld results and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

The ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Lugulu Girls’ KCSE results continues to attract widespread attention, with many eagerly awaiting an official resolution from KNEC.
