Mumias East MP Peter Salasya

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya recently reconnected with Jimmy, a shopkeeper in Nakuru who helped him during his humble beginnings over a decade ago.

In a heartfelt video shared on his Instagram account on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, Salasya revisited the shop where he once bought essential items like soap and tea leaves on credit. The emotional reunion highlighted the bond between the two, forged during Salasya’s financially challenging days.

Salasya recalled the spirited political debates he and Jimmy often had, with the shopkeeper backing former President Uhuru Kenyatta while Salasya rooted for his political idol, Raila Odinga.

“Just met Jimmy wa shop after 10 good years mwenye nilikuwa nakopa sabuni ya 15bob na majani kwake in Nakuru. He has reminded me how we used to argue with him when he used to support Uhuru na mimi Raila who was my idol politically then. Life is a journey; never give up even at your lowest moment, but hope should never die in you,” Salasya wrote.

Salasya’s Inspirational Journey

The MP’s reunion with Jimmy is a testament to his resilience and rise from poverty to success. Salasya has been candid about his challenging background, sharing stories to inspire his followers.

In November 2024, Salasya posted a video of himself interacting with construction workers in his constituency, emphasizing that fame and wealth had not changed him.

“Just landed in Mumias at home, and vijana are happy for me. Aki mimi pesa haijanibadilisha. I am still the same Petero they knew before. Content ya ku make them happy ndio imechange…youths are happy,” he said.

Salasya also shared an emotional story in August 2024 about his family’s modest home, where his mother and siblings lived before his political breakthrough. The house lacked basic amenities, and he often slept on the floor.

A photo accompanying the post showed a double-cabin pickup truck, provided by Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa for his campaign, parked outside the humble structure.

A Message of Hope

Salasya encouraged his followers to remain hopeful, work hard, and believe in their ability to overcome challenges.

“Anything is possible; just keep trying and being hopeful. You are going to change your home through your career or business you are chasing today. God is faithful; just believe Him in your heart and work hard and sacrifice what we call foregone cost opportunities in business studies,” he said.

The MP’s story of resilience and humility continues to inspire many, reminding Kenyans that no situation is permanent with determination and faith.
