The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, to August 2025.

The decision follows recommendations from CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts, who highlighted the need for additional time to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF acknowledged the significant progress made by the three host nations in constructing and upgrading stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure. However, the experts emphasized the importance of further improvements to meet CAF’s stringent requirements.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the dedication of the leaders of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in preparing for the tournament.

“I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership, commitment, and the good progress achieved. I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations of football infrastructure and facilities. I am confident that by August 2025, the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure will meet CAF standards, ensuring a very successful tournament,” he stated.

Despite the postponement, CAF has confirmed that the official draw for the tournament will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 8:00 PM EAT.

The exact start date for the rescheduled tournament in August 2025 will be announced at a later stage.
