Dagoretti North Member of Parliament (MP) Beatrice Elachi has called on Kenyans to show respect for President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a church service in Nairobi on Sunday, January 12, 2025, Elachi criticized those who constantly complain about the country, urging them to leave if they felt Kenya was not a good place to live.
“Foreigners coming to Kenya say it is a good country, but Kenyans are always complaining and still staying here. If Kenya is bad, why not leave? What are you doing here in a bad place? Disappear,” Elachi remarked.
The legislator also emphasized the need for Kenyans to respect the presidency, describing President Ruto as the “father” of the nation.
“We must respect the president; he is our father. When you go abroad, people wonder which country you come from,” she added.
Elachi further condemned the insults directed at President Ruto on social media, calling them inappropriate and harmful to the image of the country.
Her remarks come amid growing criticism of President Ruto’s administration on various social media platforms.
Meanwhile, during the same church service, President William Ruto urged Kenyans to support Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
The president appealed for unity, asking critics of Odinga’s bid to refrain from harsh sentiments and instead rally behind him.
“Remember our leader Raila Odinga as we wish him to be the AUC chairperson. That position is not his; it is for the continent and ours as a nation,” said President Ruto.
“You have not vied for the seat, you are not competing with him, so why are you criticizing him? Let us have goodwill for Kenyans,” he added.
Elachi’s statements come shortly after similar remarks by COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli, who, on January 3, 2024, urged Kenyans to respect the presidency.
Speaking at a public event in Bungoma, Atwoli emphasized the importance of supporting President Ruto’s government to ensure the successful implementation of its development agenda.
